Cinema The Pulse

The Pulse set out to build a permanent independent screening room that could hold its own against the city's commercial multiplexes — without their budget. We were brought in early, while the room was still a shell, to make sure every decision downstream served the image on screen.

We started from the seat. The rake, the eye-line and the back-row throw angle were modelled before a single bracket was hung, so the geometry of the room and the geometry of the projection agreed with each other rather than fighting. From there we specified projector, lens and screen as one system — sizing brightness to the surface, not to a spec sheet.

The result is a room that disappears the moment the lights go down. Reliable laser projection, a calibrated sound field that lands the same in the front row and the back, and a booth a single operator can run without a manual.
